Favorite Fonts (at the moment)

Lately I’ve been working on my portfolio website, my resume, and few pieces. Doing so, I re-discovered a font I re-call passing by on Pinterest, and really wishing I had re-pinned it when I couldn’t find it later. As well as obsess over a font I just recently came to have a new found love with. One font is free and easy to download the other one, unfortunately, is not quite so free. But I hope to one day get my hands on the latter. And without further ado I give you: Brandon Grotesque and Ostrich Sans.

“Brandon Grotesque is a sans serif type family of six weights plus matching italics. It was designed by Hannes von Döhren in 2009/10. Influenced by the geometric-style sans serif faces that were popular during the 1920s and 30s, the fonts are based on geometric forms that have been optically corrected for better legibility.

Brandon Grotesque has a functional look with a warm touch. While the thin and the black weights are great performers in display sizes the light, regular and medium weights are well suited to longer texts. The small x-height and the restrained forms lend it a distinctive elegance.

Brandon Grotesque is equipped for complex, professional typography. The OpenType fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages.”

You can get this font here. But I’ll let you know now, if you’re a broke college kid like me, there’s a good chance you and Brandon won’t be able to be friends just yet.

“Ostrich Sans [is] a gorgeous modern sans-serif with a very long neck. With a whole slew of styles & weights:

  • Dashed (thin)
  • Rounded (medium)
  • Ultra light
  • Normal
  • Bold (race track style double lines)
  • Black”

I recently used this font for a book project this past quarter. The boldness and all caps really created a unique feel for my pull quotes throughout. The Bold style is definitely the one I like most. And you can download this font for FREE here.

What do you think of these fonts? Do you have any favorite fonts you’d like to share?

  1. nice redesign! It looks great.

And neat post. I like the spurs (I think that’s what they’re called) on Brandon Grotesque. It gives the font a lot of character.
